Methodology

How we review tools and write guides.

Every page on Mytherapist Tools is written by people, vetted against product use, and (where the topic is clinical) reviewed by a licensed therapist. This page explains who, how, and why our verdicts stay independent.

Principles

The standards behind every page.

Named bylines, no ghosts

Every guide and comparison ships with a named author. Editorial profiles list credentials and links to other work; we do not publish anonymous reviews.

Clinical reviewers on clinical claims

Pieces that touch HIPAA posture, intake design, note structure, or modality are signed off by a licensed therapist before publication.

Verdicts beat adjectives

Pros, cons, HIPAA posture, and pricing come from at least two weeks of real-workflow use, not vendor decks. Adjectives get rewritten.

Trust line stays the line

Vendors can pay for visibility. They cannot pay for a verdict, a HIPAA flag, or a rank. The line is the line.

01

Who writes

Every guide and comparison carries a named byline. Editors on staff are listed on their author profile pages, with credentials and links to their other work. We do not publish anonymous reviews and we do not publish vendor-supplied copy as editorial.

02

Clinical review

Topics that touch clinical workflow (HIPAA posture, intake assessment design, note structure, telehealth modality) are reviewed by a licensed therapist before publication. When you see "Clinically reviewed by" in a byline, that reviewer has read the piece end to end and signed off on the clinical claims.

When no clinical reviewer is listed, the piece is editorial only. We never invent a reviewer to make a page look more credible.

03

How tools are evaluated

For each tool that earns a recommendation we test it in a real workflow for at least two weeks. We pay for the subscription or use a vendor-provided trial account. We do not take vendor talking points at face value. Pros, cons, HIPAA posture, and pricing all come from hands-on use plus the vendor's public documentation, not marketing copy.

04

Last-verified dates

Each tool page shows a "Last verified" date when we last hand-checked its facts. Pricing and HIPAA posture move; the date tells you how fresh our snapshot is. If a tool has no date, we have not yet hand-verified it (or the page is brand new), and we say nothing rather than guess.

05

How affiliate links work

Some outbound links to vendors are affiliate links. When a therapist signs up through one, we may earn a small flat fee. We keep the fee uniform across every tool in a category so the directory has no economic incentive to push one product over another. If a tool drops out of an affiliate program, the listing stays unchanged.

Affiliate links never change the rank, the verdict, the pros, or the cons.

06

The trust line

Facts free. Visibility paid. Verdicts never for sale.

Vendors can pay for visibility (Featured slots, Verified badges, newsletter placements). They cannot pay for a better ranking on a comparison page, a softer verdict, or a HIPAA status that does not match reality. If a vendor asks us to change a fact in exchange for payment, the answer is no and the request itself becomes a note on the listing.
